Characterization of the HERMES detectors for Gamma Ray Burst observations
|Research Project Description
The primary scientific goal of the HERMES (High Energy Rapid Modular Ensemble of Satellites) project is to develop a cheap and scalable network of nanosatellites able to timely detect, localise and investigate Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) and other high-energy transient, such as optical counterparts of gravitational waves events.
The goals of my research project are:
1. Characterize HERMES innovative coupled SDD-scintillator detector, by following the development and implementation and partecipating in its test campaign
2. Investigate the near Earth environment, intended as a research stage for HERMES and the incoming generation of small spacecrafts for high energy astronomy.
3. Develop the theoretical tools necessary to confront new science in the field of extreme cosmic objects and phenomena.
