Impossible 2D structures

B. G. Sidharth

Abstract
More than 70 years ago Landau had argued that 2D crystal would be impossible on thermodynamic grounds. In spite of that the author had studied it and wrote of strange properties; finally the discovery of graphene 10 years later set matters at rest. This is brought out in the talk including features like noncommutative geometry and magnetic effects.
